The European Research Council (ERC) has published a new paper on the persistent research performance gap across Europe. Professor Leszek Kaczmarek, Chair of the ERC Working Group on Widening European Participation, stresses that while this divide threatens Europe’s overall scientific strength, any measures to address it must fully preserve the ERC’s founding principle: selection based solely on scientific excellence.
